ARTISTIC AND CULTURAL CENTER
IN KOZIENICE

The building of Artistic and Cultural Center in Kozienice has put into operation in October 2015, after two years of realization. Architectural form of the building has been designed by Cracow architectural studio f-11 (architect: Ph.D Eng.Arch. Marcin Furtak). Four storey building with size of plan equal to 54.5 x 42.9 m (178.8 x 140.8 ft.) has been designed. The building consists of two separated segments. The cinama hall and theatre hall are located in one of them.

To maximize the building space for its limited height it was necessary to construct extremaly thin slabs. Three post-tensioned slabs with unbonded tendons were designed and constructed:

- one-way slab Sl-1 over the theatre space in the level of +9.68 m, it is spanning of 11.15 m (36.6 ft.) and it was constructed with a thickness of 200 mm (7.9 in.) (span to depth ratio is 55.8),

- one-way roof slab Sl-2 over the theatre space with the span of 12.86 m (42.2 ft.) and with a thickness of 250 mm (9.8 in.) (span to depth ratio is 55.4),

- two-way roof slab over the cinema space with the span of 17.65 x 19.6 m (57.9 x 64.3 ft.) and with a thickness of 350 mm (13.8 in) (span to depth ratio is 50.4).

The post-tensioned slabs are extremaly large and slender and unique in Poland and in the world. For this reason, the largest span slab over the cinema city has been tested under the induced load before the commissioning of the building. This was carried out in cooperation with Prestress Concrete Department of Cracow University of Technology (the only one in Poland academic institution dealing with prestressed concrete structure). In this purpose, "smal beach" was organized on the roof in Kozienice. Nine garden pools with diameter of 3.0 m (9.8 ft.) have been set and filled with water. The uniformly distributed load equal to 1.2 kPa (0.174 psi) has been applied. Increase of deflection and force in uncovered tendons in the middle-span cross-section have been monitorig during the load process. The obtained results showed the slab sensitivity to the load. They were helpful to design ever larger post-tensioned flat slab (look at Busko-Zdroj Cultural Center).
